It is totally inappropriate and just "WRONG" to say don't try to understand. This is exactly the attitude of bad maths teachers who either do not understand it themselves or do not have the ability as teachers to make something understandable. One thing I would agree with though, is that sometimes understanding FOLLOWS learning. In other words people may have to amass enough familiarity with a topic before it all falls into place and people see the pattern. Till the age of 12 I had great difficulty with maths. I later realised that this was all due to bad maths teaching, which seems to be the norm. Fortunately at that age I was relegated to the 'bottom' set and for the first time had a maths teacher who actually bothered to explain what she was doing instead of just doing it. I happily stayed with this set till my O-level exams, glad to avoid the terrible teachers and got an 'A' grade in my Maths O-Level, something no one would have predicted. From this I went from a fear of maths to a love of maths, and carried on studying it at a much higher level. Try to make things understandable and try to understand things.

That is the 1970s first edition of the C book. It describes K&R C, a dead language. You want the 1980s 2nd edition, which is the ANSI-C version. :) And Ritchie created C, not C++. Bjarne Stroustrup created C++. Funny, I originally learned C and Python from the same books.

I've just turned 70. My introduction to programming started with Basic on a VIC-20 computer, back in the early 80s. I then learnt machine code programing and then ASM. I loved it all. A couple of decades later, the Atmel AVR microcontrollers appeared. It was quite amazing how the skills I'd learnt from my VIC-20 ASM days were relevant again. I was programming AT90S2313 Atmel micros in no time at all. I've never looked back at the hours spent learning with any animosity at all. It is always worth it.

K&R C and Borland C++ were home for me.

Got a C in Calc 1 and an A in Calc 2. What it mostly came down to was how interested I was in each subject. Hated limits and derivatives, and despised integrals until I learned about applications (specifically washer problems). Now I love integrals and can live with derivatives (limits still confuse me tho).

I also looked before you finished your video. I'm so impressed that I feel I'll be devoting my time to read and finish this book (PDF). Quick story: many many years ago I tried and failed integral calculus in college but actually ended up with an A when I took it one more time with a teacher who could teach- a school marm type who insisted that we students draw, derive, and practice. She was clear and precise in lecture with never a gap in logic, and gave us a full spectrum of difficult problems to practice on. This book looks to be of the same philosophy. I'm 80 y/o now and this is exciting to see. Thank you. If you know of a mathematical ecology book with this level of teaching, I would very much appreciate knowing about it

This is a generation of robots who cannot be one minute without their cell phone. Perfect. This is what they want. If the government does not stop digging into our social security money, we are not going to have anything to retire with in the future. Think about that for a minute.

I read one book on swing trading with technical analysis and I started figuring out about half way through the book that all the examples given in the book of how a price moves was being projected by the author onto the charts he was using. I saw that any chart could have been interpreted differently based on how you want to draw your double top, cup handle bs ESPECIALLY on what time frame you are using, and then I got really pissed when I saw his explanations were simply hindsight 20/20 arm chair quarterbacking, and he only picked charts that fit his interpretation for his book. I threw the book away and never finished it. I agree with Tom Sosnoff that TA is a good engagement tool, but it tells you little to nothing about future price movements. (If you want to use trend lines to make an entry, cool.. but that is so easy to understand, there is no reason to read an entire book on how to draw a stupid trend line).

I bombed many tests in college, but junior year I enjoyed one of my classes and actually studied. Ended up with the best score. It gave me the confidence to try. Ended up scoring top of my class on almost every other test until I graduated. I was simply the only one willing to put in the time and effort to learn all the material. Granted reflecting on it, it was a bit of a waste of time going that hard.
